Help Loki Boy Get Back On His Feet!

Donation protected
Hi! Our little Loki boy is down! After having a wonderful outing with his parents on Sunday, Feb 6th, Loki started exhibiting odd behaivor and not acting like his normal happy go lucky self. Monday the 7th, little Loki started vomiting constantly, being extremely lethargic, not eating and hiding while at home. For anyone that knows Loki, that is extremely out of character for this floofer.

After another hard night on Monday, Loki was taken to a vet here in Lake Forest where bloodwork was done and x-rays were taken. A medication to help stop the vomiting was given and he was sent on his way home to await the results from the tests. Once home the vomiting, not eating and the other strange behaviors continued.

Once again, poor Loki had another restless night, not able to sleep. During his morning potty time, Loki collapsed on the grass. Fearing something life threatening was happening, his parents took him to the closest Animal ER to their house.

Once they got to Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital, Loki was taken in to be examined by the doctor. After about an hour waiting, the doctor called and said he would need to run bloodwork and X-rays in order to determine the cause. When asked why the same tests that were administered the prior day couldn't be used to determine the illness or what had been going on, the doctor proceeded to say the incorrect bloodwork tests and x-rays were done from the prior day and they couldn't be used. After a very abrupt conversation with the doctor, a receptionist came out with an estimate for Loki of close to $3,100.00. The vague itemized estimate was to do completely new tests from the ones that had been paid the prior day (totaling upwards of $1,100.00). Fearing the unknown and not being able to help themselves, the estimate was agreed on with the hopes of Loki being able to come home after an overnight stay and IV meds and fluids administered.

Three hours had passed by at which point an update on how Loki was doing would have been expected. Since there had been no communication since the events from the morning, a phone call was placed to get an update on Loki to Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital. The representative answered and said they would have the doctor call as soon as he was available with an update.

Later that afternoon, a call from the vet who had done the tests said the bloodwork results show that Loki had Pancreatitis. After explaining to the vet on the phone what had occurred that morning, and that the tests that were done were said to be incorrect, the vet on the phone laughed and called bulls**t. He said there is no doubt in his mind that after looking at the bloodwork that a diagnosis of Pancreatitis couldn't have been determined. The vet also said he has many patients and many other vets in practice say the same thing about Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital, that they perform unnecessary tests and procedures in order to raise the bill and prey on pet owners fears when their animals are in distress.

Around 2:00PM a call was received from Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital and the doctor confirmed that Loki does indeed have Pancreatitis. After explaining that the IV treatments would continue, the call ended shortly after.

As the evening progressed with no update from Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital, Loki's parents started to get worried, around 8:00PM another call was placed to Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital, this time they were able to speak to the nightshift doctor. When asked for an update, the doctor simply said "He's fine." and after expressing their concern with the wellbeing of Loki and how they had been worried, the doctor simply said "Okay.". Unable to get any further information out of the doctor the call was ended.

Thursday morning came with another restless night of sleep not knowing how little Loki boy was doing. A phone call was placed for another update at 11:00AM and once again "The doctor will call you back when he is off the phone" was said. Hours passed with still no update or call from Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital. At 6:00PM another call was placed to Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital, this time the receptionist stated "Oh. Yes I see the doctor was supposed to call you back, I'll get him another message and have him call you as soon as possible.".

Later that night, an email was opened that contained ANOTHER bill for another upwards of $2,800.00 came from Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital. Without any update the whole day, another call was placed to Bright Care Vet Animal Hospital. This time, the doctor was able to get on the phone and explained that Loki would need to stay an additional two nights and that his case of pancreatitis was extreme. After spending time thinking about transferring him to a different 24 hour clinic and speaking with other vets, it was determined that it is best if Loki continues to be treated where he is as to avoid any other fees for transferring and any exam fees that may incur by the new clinic.

We as pet owners put our faith in animal clinics and trust what is being done will help get our pets better. We are not doctors, we can't read lab results, we don't know what is best for our pet in a medical emergency and most of the time, it is something that comes quickly and it's not easy to come up with the exorbitant amount that is typically charged by these doctors.

While insurance is expected to cover a very small portion of the total that was charged, we are asking for any help to make sure Loki can continue getting the needed care to get back to his normal self and get back to what he loves, giving the best hugs and running wild!

Below are a few photos of the bills that have been received however some are “still being sent”.
