Help Loki Beat FIP!

Loki is our 8 month old, indoor kitten who knows no strangers. He’s inseparable from his littermate and best friend Beans. They love to play together, get bossed around by their big brother Smokey, and are the most loving kittens you will ever meet.

The past week or so, Loki hasn’t been his usual self.

He didn't run or play with Beans as much, he began to eat less, move less and he developed a swollen abdomen.

We took him to the vet and they syringed a yellow fluid out of his stomach and told us that he is suffering from FIP. FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) is a viral disease that affects cats. Since Loki is still a kitten, he is at a disadvantage against this disease and we have been told that chances of survival without treatment are very unlikely. While it is no longer a death sentence, it is still extremely aggressive and very expensive to treat, and without treatment, FIP is nearly always fatal.

We are completely devastated to see Loki go through this and the thought of losing him is absolutely gut wrenching. We have had to separate the two kittens and they are so unhappy without the other to snuggle and play with.

To stand a chance of survival Loki will need a 12 week course of treatment which will cost around $4000. The treatment is called GS441524 and costs about $120 per bottle which lasts 3 days and we need to administer it daily for 84 days. Additionally, he will need to have bloodwork done every 30 days (4 times at $110 each) as well as daily antibiotics and supplements.
