Help Lois Southers Battle Stage IV Lung Cancer
Donation protected
Our Mom's battle with Stage IV Lung Cancer Continues. We are asking for donations to help towards medical bills, alternative treatments, regular bills, and vehicle upkeep on their truck. (so many miles traveled for treatments and Doctor appointments.) Dad is with Mom 24/7, so income is down and their savings have depleted. We don't want her to worry about anything except remaining positive and kicking a**. Please consider donating and sharing her story. Thank you for your support and prayers!
2021: Our Mom's original diagnosis with Lung Cancer made us slow down and appreciate life in a different way. The fear of COVID, on top of LUNG CANCER brought extreme anxiety. This made us slow down even more, slamming it in our face how fragile life is and how special our loved ones really are. We wanted to put our parents in a bubble. (not the same bubble, they would kill each other. lol) Mom had been doing well until late Summer. She started having terrible pain from the cancer in her Adrenal Gland. She was put on Morphine, but the pain just kept getting worse and worse. She had two stays in the Hospital, each for about a week. Between the new chemo treatment and extremely high doses of Morphine, she was so sick and completely out of it. OCTOBER/NOVEMBER/DECEMBER are a complete blur. She stopped her Chemo in December and was able to take less Morphine. This brought her back to us:) Five sessions of CyberKnife were completed early January. Scans are scheduled for the end of January. Regardless of the results she has decided to stop chemo. Her doctor said there is one other chemo treatment, but it will make her feel worse than before. She politely DECLINED:) Clinical Trials might be an option, but nothing lined up. We are asking for donations to help towards medical bills, alternative treatments and peace of mind of day to day life. We don't want her to worry about anything except remaining positive and kicking a**. Please add our Mom to your prayers & appreciate everyday you have with your loved ones. PRAYING for HEALTH & HAPPINESS for EVERYONE. **************************************************************************************************************************************************
November 19, 2017 was her 60th Birthday. During the early morning hours of November 20, 2017 our Mom was admitted to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia, having awful stomach cramps. Test results showed fluid around her heart, which lead the doctors to investigate further. The day before Thanksgiving we received the results of additional tests and images. A mass was located on her lung. Lois insisted the recommended biopsy be done that day November 23, accepting that she would have to forego anesthesia, because staying in the hospital for another day was not an option for her. She was determined to celebrate Thanksgiving with her family. Off to get her biopsy with no anesthesia she went. She then checked out as fast as she could. She arrived at our home that evening to start prep work for Thanksgiving Day, and remained happy and positive for the next couple days. We know….even if she didn't show it, how worried and scared she was. Her motto has always been "Don't worry, until there is something to worry about." Even when the results came back Stage III NSCLC, she still remained positive and continued with the same outlook. Honestly, she is the most positive person we know. The diagnosis came with more tests, and even though December was the month of waiting, it didn't stop our love for Christmas time. We decorated the house like never before and had blast doing so. The results came in and there was cancer in both lungs and a few lymph nodes. Exhausted and sick, she remained so positive throughout the next five months of chemo and radiation treatments and we were so thankful that her follow up scans looked great!!! The tumors were smaller and their cell activity had also decreased. However, as often is the case…. we were given the news that the cancer had spread to her Adrenal Gland, changing her diagnosis to Stage IV Cancer. The doctors first treated her with radiation and that seemed to do the trick. The next PET scan had the Adrenal Gland lighting up again:( Chemo is the course of treatment now, and she has been through three rounds this year. We are asking for donations to help towards medical bills, alternative treatments and peace of mind of day to day life. We don't want her to worry about anything except remaining positive and kicking a**. Please add our Mom your prayers and appreciate everyday you have with your loved ones. Thank you for your support and prayers!
