HELP LOIS BECOME A TATTOO ARTIST

Hiya everyone! I’m Lois, a 22 year old black queer creative from London currently aspiring to be a tattoo artist. While studying BA Printed Textiles and Surface pattern design at uni I created a brand for my practice: MajekPrints. This brand centres the representation of black folk through an illustrative, playful and loving lense. My current portfolio of work consists of a variety of different art forms including fabric print and illustration. Like most creatives I’ve always found it hard to specify what area of the creative world I want to delve in to so by creating MajekPrints as this umbrella foundation I’m allowing myself to explore a number of different mediums that centre blackness in every sense of the word. One of those mediums being tattooing. I have always seen a paradox between the surface of human skin and fabric print. The skin is a surface that some people choose to have printed on in the form of a tattoo and I would love to be able to create these prints for those who don’t see people that look like THEM giving them their tattoo. In order for me to become a fully qualified tattoo artist I would like to partake in a two week Tattoo course including tattoo infection control level 2 (VTQ Qualification) which will allow me to finish the course with a certificate that complies with the local councils, governments and insurance companies who require proof that I have been properly trained in infection control. The two week course would also equip me with tips and tricks for the industry that will hopefully allow me to one day open my own tattoo parlour. For now I would love to be able to create pieces of artwork that I am safely and confidently able to tattoo on to skin in a cormfortable yet exciting environment. If at all possible please help me get as close as possible to £2000 to afford the costs of this course that will last a lifetime and allow me to pull up a chair in an industry that is reluctant to hold a chair for black tattoo artists.
