Help Support Logan’s Fight Against Osteosarcoma

On November 17th, our 23 year old son Logan received a life-changing diagnosis: osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive adolescent bone cancer. Since that day, life has become a whirlwind of hospital visits, surgeries, and treatments. Logan has already endured two surgeries and two rounds of chemotherapy, with an estimated fifteen+ months of treatment, at least one additional major surgery and 30 rounds of chemotherapy still ahead.

Because of the seriousness of his condition and the high risk of infection, Logan was told he cannot return to his job at the Leon County Animal Shelter, a place he truly loved working. He has also had to put his college education on hold while he focuses on healing. Because this intense chemotherapy regimen wipes out his immune system, Logan will be unable to work at all for the 16 months of treatment.

In February, Logan is scheduled to undergo a major surgery to remove the tumor, followed by additional months of chemotherapy coupled with physical therapy. He is currently using crutches as instructed by his oncologist.

Our family travels weekly to Shands for lab work and every two weeks for multi-day hospital stays during his chemo treatments. A family member is always by his side during these stays to support him through the physical and emotional challenges. Shands, in Gainesville, is the closest hospital (5hrs round trip) with a pediatric orthopedic oncology wing, and thank God! because they are incredible.

As you can imagine, the medical and living expenses have quickly become overwhelming. Just before the diagnosis Logan had lost his health coverage through work due to his work dropping hours just below full time. Due to that, Logan already is faced with an approximate $150,000 bill at Shands and counting. They have told us that they are going to do their best to help out on that tab until his health insurance kicks in. Thank you so much Shands Hospital!

We are reaching out to our friends, family, and community for support as Logan faces this battle. Donations will go directly toward his mounting medical bills and cover his essential living expenses, including rent/utility, car payments, insurance, phone bills, and the ongoing travel required for his treatment… over 30 trips in the next 15 or so months with at least a third of them inpatient several night stays.

We did a budget and this ask is exactly enough to cover Logan's basic expenses for the time he will be unable to work and also that he needs to win this battle.

Logan is strong, resilient, and fighting every day — but he can’t do it alone. Any amount, no matter how small, will help lighten the burden and allow him to focus on what matters most: his recovery.
