On October 1st, 2022, Logan Grimm was struck by a vehicle while standing at the end of his driveway, resulting in multiple broken bones and an Axonal Brain Injury. We are asking for donations to help cover the medical expenses and his extended road to recovery. Your donations will also assist our family with the costs associated with supporting his healing.
Logan broke both Collarbones, left Ulna and Radius, left Iliac Crest (pelvis), left Femur and left Fibula. He ruptured the left side of his diaphragm, causing his stomach to be forced into his chest cavity, and sustained an Axonal Brain Injury, a shearing injury, to both frontal lobes and his left temporal lobe.
After being in a medically induced coma on a ventilator he began breathing on his own and showing signs of awareness after only a couple of weeks. We are now at the 1-month mark, and this week has been a huge week for Logan. He is awake and responding to yes and no questions by nodding his head and using hand gestures. He was fitted with a speaking valve on his trach yesterday and can start learning to speak with it.
His broken bones are healing well, but the full extent of his brain injury is still unknown at this time. It does appear he has significant short-term memory loss and some confusion. After his physical body has recovered, we hope he will attend an inpatient brain injury program for extensive rehabilitation.
His hospital physicians cannot give us clear timeframes since everyone has their own healing rate, but they have suggested this injury may take six months to 2 years to reach a good level of recovery. We are guarded but extremely optimistic he will make a full recovery.
Being only 22 years old and having only basic medical insurance, we anticipate significant medical bills. Your generous donations will help us cover the costs of Logan's medical care while he is in the hospital, during rehabilitation, and once Logan is home. We are unsure at this time what in-home services or outpatient care may be needed, but he will likely need supportive medical care for a year or two. Your donations will also help our family supplement our expenses, such as additional gas for travel to and from the hospital, rehab center, and doctor's appointments. Currently, the average trip to the hospital and back is 60 miles round trip.
We are so grateful you have taken the time to read about Logan and his fight to recover from this accident. We ask that you please flood Logan and our family with your prayers and positive energy and consider donating to this cause. We thank you very much! Any donation amount is greatly appreciated.
We look forward to having his charismatic smile back and his prankster ways keeping us laughing.
Another way you can help is by dropping off new or used magazines for Logan to read or anything that may help him keep busy while recovering. He is fond of fishing, trucks and country music.
Any leftover funds will be donated to a nonprofit organization with similar goals like TBI Warrior Foundation.
Logan Grimm’s immediate family organizes this care fund; David Grimm (father), Mary Robinson (step-mom), April Shaw (sister), Dallas Grimm (brother) and Chance Grimm (brother).
