Last summer, Lauren and I had the opportunity to travel to Liberia in Western Africa to visit a friend and school that we have been partnering with for several years. Pastor Romeo Peters is both pastor and proprietor of a large (400+ students) school in Liberia’s capital city of Monrovia called "The Lords Dwelling Place Christian Academy" (LODEPCA).
Liberia is a nation with a challenging past. Founded in 1822 by former enslaved and free black Americans (some from York County South Carolina), Liberia has experienced great challenges such as political upheaval, brutal civil wars & ebola to name a few. This country is still rebuilding from her warred past and the building often feels like it is on shaky ground. Meanwhile, basic needs are a concern, like daily food, running water and education.
LODEPCA is not only a school but holds a thriving church, a community well, a rec center for the kids and often acts as home for orphaned children in the community who literally have nowhere else to go. Brother Romeo doesn’t turn anyone away.
For the first time since moving into their facility over a decade ago. LODEPCA has the opportunity to purchase the land and the buildings the school/church/orphanage occupies. The purchase price is $8000 usd!
Owning the deed to this property will ensure that The Lords Dwelling Place Christian Academy is here to stay, Without fear of eviction Romeo and the staff can confidently continue to grow strong roots as they stretch far into their community.
I am asking if you would consider partnering with our brothers and sisters in Christ to love the least of these. This community is so rich in hope, faith and love in a place where hope can feel absent, faith is sobering and love is costly. What a privilege to sow into Kingdom work!
