Our last update said that Sophia LaBorde is in a clinical trial in Pittsburgh. Her family felt really felt good about that one, but unfortunately, it didn't work.
"The cancer in her knee continued to grow up her femur, so she was removed from the trial. She began taking a chemo pill at home everyday, and doing immunotherapy every 3 weeks up in Buffalo.
She also received a total knee replacement in order to remove all of the cancer from her leg, and the bone that had been destroyed because of it. They removed a little less than half of her femur, as well as the knee, and replaced it all with metal.
This surgery was December 17th, and she's been healing from it since. Thankfully, she's now able to walk with crutches, but she is in physical therapy to strengthen her leg so she can walk normal again. Unfortunately, there are no other clinical trials at the time, other than one in Germany.
Her doctor is currently looking into that, but for now, we're traveling to Buffalo for her currently treatment plan, and praying for the best.
Soph is officially 16 today and had a beautiful birthday party with friends and family! She's saving up money for a car, and is hoping to get a job once her knee is fully healed. If it weren't for the short hair and the crutches, you'd have no idea how sick she is. She looks and feels good, which is all we can ask for given the circumstances.
At this time, there is still too many lung nodules to count, a small lesion on her liver, and spots on her arm, spine, pelvis, shoulder, and several affected lymph nodes. But she's still fighting, and will continue to do so. But after 3.5 years, and recently losing our health insurance, the bills are piling up.
She was approved for medicaid, but some of her stuff isn't covered, especially some meds. Every donation will go directly to her care, including medical bills, bills for our family so we can continue to take care of her, and traveling expenses for treatments.
Thank you for the continued love, support, and prayers. We truly appreciate you all! Soph should be having scans shortly. I'll provide another update at that time. Thank you!"
