My father came to the US from Chile in 2007 to live his dream of becoming an American citizen and owning his own business as a commercial fisherman. In 2015, he had the opportunity to fulfill this dream. He took all his life savings, applied for a loan and bought a commercial fishing boat. His first three years were not easy. As anyone who has started a business or knows about being a commercial fisherman, knows it takes a lot of hard work, countless hours, serious dedication along with and overcoming the significant amount of obstacles to be successful. Through his continuous hard work, determination and pride, my father slowly started to succeed. Unfortunately, in order to make ends meet, he had to cut back on expenses including his boat insurance. On Friday, June 1, the unthinkable happened. His boat sunk at the pier. Thank God no one was on the boat at the time. Sadly, he has lost his only means to pay his bills and put food on the table. Salvage costs alone are estimated around $75000. Repair costs could be in the hundreds of thousands, if a repair is even possible. An investigation is in progress by the Coast Guard at this time but this does not currently help my parents financially. I am asking for any and all the financial assistance possible to help my parents. This support will help buy food, turn on the lights, put gas in the car and help him get by in this tumultuous time.
As previously stated, there is an investigation in progress and I don’t have many details. I will be sure to share as soon as they are made available.
