Help Local Activist fund her Transition

My name is Alexa, I'm an LGBTQI+ activist living in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I've lived almost my entire transition in the public eye, starting at 16 running a youth group for trans communities in Newry and getting involved in public campaigning, through my work in TransgenderNI and running the Belfast Trans Resource Centre for a number of years, to now working in the Rainbow Project as their Policy, Campaigns and Comms Manager.

I've thought about this for a long time, but have never felt able to fundraise for my care. I self-medicated from 2018 to the beginning of this year, when I began accessing private care (and paying £150 a month for the trouble). I have felt that, if I fundraise, it takes valuable money away from the organisations who do invaluable work and the countless trans people across the North who are in a worse off position.

Frankly, that reasoning is beginning to wear thin as this part of the world slides further and further into anti-trans hysteria, and I've decided that I need to help myself in order to keep doing this work.

Approaching my ten year tranniversary in June has forced me to consider what progress I've made in the past ten and where I want to be after the next. I feel like I haven't gotten to where I want to be, or even close, and it's been difficult.

There are so many people and causes that need and so deserve your money right now - Trans Pride and the Rainbow Project, organisations I'm on the board of and work for respectively, are running their own fundraisers which are absolutely essential to support.

I understand that this one may not be a priority, and will certainly take a long time to come close to funding my transition. But I wanted to make a start. Anything you can donate, any sharing you can do, any rich friends you have who wish to bankroll a transsexual, all of this is greatly appreciated x
