My friend in Senegal, Lobe Thiam (low-bey cham), is trying to start a small food preparation business in Dakar to help pay for her mom's medical bills. She has experience in selling food but needs an appropriate stove. This fundraiser would help her purchase the stove and gas she needs to start cooking and earning cash to support herself and her mom. She is dedicated to working hard and paying back the cost of the stove, but I would love to leverage my community to give her a grant instead and allow her to focus on stabilizing her family finances. Given our relative economic and social privilege in the US, I am hopeful we can help her become a small business owner with a chance to earn a steady income for her family.
