Help Lizzie Rebuild After Violent Home Invasion

Donation protected
On October 6th, 2025, our sister Liz was the victim of a violent home invasion in the middle of night. Her attacker tied a rope to the chimney, rappelled down to the third floor, and entered her home through the kitchen window. She woke up to see the silhouette of a man standing over her. He immediately attacked her, and after a struggle, zip-tied her arms together.

What he didn’t realize was that Liz—our absolute rockstar of a sister—wasn’t going down without a fight. While he struggled to subdue her, Liz, despite being bound, managed to fight back and de-escalate the violence. But even after the physical altercation, he remained in her house for over an hour. She continued to fear for her life as he harassed her. He then committed a lewd act in front of her before fleeing the scene with her phone.

With no way to contact police, and afraid he was still in her building, Liz used her computer to contact me and my husband in Maryland, where we were able to call the NYPD.

To make matters even more heartbreaking, during the attack Liz's cat Baby Jessica, who she rescued from a snowstorm 10 years ago, panicked and leapt from the window. Baby J fell three stories, landing in the same place where she was first found. She suffered severe injuries, and in the midst of recounting the traumatic events to the police, Liz had to field a call from the Pet ER and make the devastating decision to put Baby Jessica to rest. She couldn't even be there when it happened.

This invasion immediately altered the course of Liz’s life. After a hospital visit on the day of the attack, she was unable to re-enter her home because it was an active crime-scene. The apartment was surrounded by the press and flooded with police, investigators, and detectives from the Brooklyn Special Victims Unit. To this day, she’s been unable to return to the beloved apartment she’s called home for 12 years. She lived there for over a quarter of her life, and though it’s difficult, she’s decided not to return.

Liz has only just begun to navigate the aftermath. She’s lost so much of the agency and independence she has spent years building. She and her cat Randy are seeking new stable housing to start the process of rebuilding their lives. This is an incredibly challenging and costly process, so we’re raising funds to help them get back on their feet. We are asking her community to help with funds for the following expenses:

  • Relocation and housing costs
  • Lost wages
  • Therapy and trauma recovery
  • Medical expenses
  • General expenses, including all those that arise when one is displaced from their home (food, travel, etc)

While no amount of money will erase what happened or alleviate the ripple effects caused by this horrific event, our family hopes to give Liz and Randy a stable foundation to heal, rebuild, and start again.

If you’re unable to donate financially, there are still meaningful ways to help:

  • Share this link with your network, and ask people to share it with theirs
  • Offer leads for safe housing - even if temporary
  • Help with moving, packing, unpacking
  • Offer rides, car access, or other transportation leads
  • Reach out — she’d love to hear from you (yes, you!) - small gestures mean a lot right now

Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting Liz and Randy as they begin to reclaim safety and rebuild their lives.

With much gratitude,
Tricia & Tammy
