Help Liza Survive: Urgent Medical Funds Needed

Our beloved Fe Liza, known to many as Liza, has always been a beacon of joy and laughter. As a dedicated assistant school teacher and active church member and music leader living in Qatar for the past ten years, she has spread joy with her bubbly personality, constant jokes, contagious laughter, selfless compassion, and amazing singing voice.

Now, she needs our help.

On December 15, 2023, the day before her sister’s long-awaited wedding, Liza (who was supposed to be the maid of honour) had spent much money and effort to fly from Qatar to the Philippines. The family was excited to be with each other after several years apart.

Hours after arriving, she was found in distress – vomiting with severe chest pain and dangerously high blood pressure.

The bride’s mother and what was supposed to be the two bridesmaids and two groomsmen rushed to the hospital with Liza, half of them staying there and missing the wedding, and the other half coming back a few hours before call time to share she was diagnosed with a stroke and serious brain hemorrhage. Immediately after the wedding, the family rushed to the hospital to be by her side. Although hospitalized, she managed to come home for a brief period, until Christmas Day, where the family reunion was cut short, as they had to rush her to the hospital again.

Over the following months, unable to return to Qatar, Liza's condition improved until a dog bite set her back. Only one month after returning to Qatar in February 2024, she suffered a second severe stroke resulting in severe brain damage and left-side paralysis. After an emergency procedure, she was transferred to the Qatar Rehabilitation Institute in May.

Since then, she has undergone daily therapies to regain some functions and has shown slow improvement. However, in addition to struggling with hypertension, diabetes, impaired vision and speech, short term memory loss, and depression, her recovery has been tough. She remains bedridden, wheelchair-dependent, and needs constant care as her left limbs remain severely weak, and she has severe brain damage.

Currently, due to visa constraints, financial difficulties, and her health insurance nearing its limit, Liza must be discharged from the hospital by the beginning of August and move back to the Philippines, where the healthcare system is not as equipped to handle her condition. Despite combined effort, her family is struggling to afford the costs associated with her treatment, rehabilitation, and care.

We are fundraising to help afford these overwhelming, ongoing costs, which includes medical expenses, equipment, supplies, a significant amount of medications, rehabilitation costs, daily living assistance, and more. Your support will not only help alleviate the financial burden on our family but also provide Liza with the best possible chance of recovery.

We are truly grateful for any donation, no matter how small. We understand contributing financially can be challenging, so we are equally grateful for sharing this campaign to reach as many people as possible.

From the bottom of our hearts, we truly thank you for all your support, prayers, and generosity.

With gratitude,
Liza’s Family ❤️
