Help Liz Young with her Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Liz woke up a month ago not feeling quite like herself and went to see her doctor who immediately said, "get yourself to the Emergency Room!"  After bloodwork was taken, they found abnormal cells in her liver which indicated that a series of cat scans, ultra sounds and biopsies had to be taken.  After two weeks, the biopsy came back positive with a diagnosis of cancer. The specific kind of cancer and from where it originated is not yet known; the results are expected on December 16.  At that point, a more clear diagnosis and medical protocol will be determined.

In the meantime, Liz has been in the hospital, at a nursing home, at home for one night, and then back again into the hospital where she is now. She is getting excellent care, physical therapy, occupational therapy and some rest....or rather, good naps. Because of Covid restrictions, she has had no visitors, and nothing is allowed to be delivered to the hospital including food, flowers, or gifts.

What Liz DOES need is money. Not everything, especially when she gets home after treatment, is covered by insurance. A trained nurse costs $80 per hour. A skilled caregiver, on the other hand, costs $32 per hour. We are estimating that a skilled caregiver at an 8-hr shift per day will cost Liz $9,000 per month.  This does not include any extra care beyond that; for example, additional nursing care if needed, supplies, physical therapy, modifications to her living environment to accommodate the changes that will undoubtedly result from her treatments, and any other incidentals that are impossible to imagine at this point.

Please send this to anyone who you know that Liz knows - and spread it far and wide. It would be wonderful if Liz's expenses could be supplemented by your generous donations. I will update this account with additional information as soon as Liz knows the extent of her treatment. In the meantime, I know it would give her peace of mind to have the support.
