Most of you know that Liz, our beloved friend, sister, daughter, coworker, step-in mom, and so much more, has been battling cancer for the last five years. At 31 she had a mastectomy and underwent heavy treatment. This year we all had big plans and hopes to celebrate her five-year cancer-free mark. However, things changed in early summer when Liz noticed a strange cough that she couldn’t shake and an overwhelming sense of fatigue. The doctors discovered a few spots that turned out to be tumors growing on her lungs. She has since been diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, and has found some additional growth in other parts of her body. While she is battling the side effects of her current chemotherapy and radiation treatment, we wanted to start this Go Fund Me page to help her other battle, the one with time.

Liz is still currently working as a children’s librarian. She did so through most of her first round of cancer and has been working on modified duty during most of this round but that is becoming near impossible for her to keep up. The problem is that her place of employment does not pay into disability insurance, and in order for her to qualify for state medical insurance she will need to stop working for a six-month period. This means for six months she will be uninsured unless she pays out of pocket for Cobra Coverage, which we average to be around $6000. She absolutely cannot go without medical insurance for six months. She is currently in the process of giving up her apartment, downsizing her belongings, and setting up space to live between family and friends.

A few things to know about Liz if you don’t already:

1. She is a CRAZY Disney fanatic. I don’t know how we are going to store her things!

2. She loves animals. All animals, but mostly dogs, hippos, and baby goats.

3. She has a love for exploring, traveling, and enjoying the little things.

4. She cares for her people passionately. Gives great advice and can be loyal to a fault.

5. She is not good at asking for help.

Our goal is to help Liz spend what she has left of her life with the people she cares for and doing the things she loves the most while she still has the energy to do so. If possible, please help us help Liz. We are looking to fund her Cobra Coverage, some basic living expenses, and hopefully a little extra to help her cross some of those items off her precious bucket list.
