Hi, my name is Stacy, AKA Tae Lynne the Kindness Junkie. I’m raising money for my dear friend, Liz, to help her with the mounting household bills and forthcoming funeral costs for her 90-year-old mother, June. This fundraiser will close January 5. Kindly make any donations prior to that date.
Liz’s father passed away in 2002. After the 2020 loss of her only sibling, Ruth, who was disabled, Liz became the sole caregiver for her mother. They have no other living family members who can help them. Only one extended family member remains (over 800 miles away) and cannot assist because she is also on a modest, fixed income.
Affectionately known by many as Junebug, June has faced numerous medical challenges over the last 10 years. This has resulted in costs for ambulance services, countless hospitalizations, several rehabilitation stays, in-home medical equipment, and private in-home clinical care. While Medicare covered some of these expenses, the rest has fallen upon Liz, a former newspaper writer and literature teacher who had to stop working to care for June in the last years of her life.
This year was the most difficult, with June spending the first three months of the year in another hospital-rehabilitation-hospital cycle. The rehabilitation stays cost $2,200 beyond what Medicare covered, leaving Liz with mounting debt. June is just over the monthly limit & does NOT qualify for Medicaid. Everything else is out of pocket, including $80 per month in incontinence products (June is bedbound). When Liz tried to return to work, the in-home care June required drained their savings, in addition to the $3,000 set aside for funeral costs.
Liz is making the best of things, including making do without her own health insurance. However, she has needed to depend on credit cards, freelance writing, and delivering for Door Dash just to cover basic living expenses. They are barely making it on June’s modest social security and Liz’s part-time income.
This has been an extremely challenging and emotionally and physically exhausting time in Liz’s life. Liz wouldn’t feel comfortable asking for help, as she understands the financial challenges many families have, especially at this time of year. In fact, it took some convincing to allow me to run this fundraiser for her.
I want to relieve her of the worry. She has always been a source of inspiration, courage, dedication, perseverance, and love for me, as well as so many people within her friends group, school and community.
Your generosity will help make this final Christmas together memorable, assist Liz with extensive debt, and give Junebug peace of mind, as she transitions to her final resting place. No amount is too small to make a difference. Thank you for your donation to this loving family.
