Help Liz and Family Care for Lyhen and Abuela

We recently learned that our dear friend Liz’s mother, Lyhen Fernández Báez, has a brain tumor. They have also found cancer present in her lungs and liver and osteoporosis as well. This has been devastating to Liz, her family, and their broader community.
Lyhen is a dedicated urologist who has been helping people improve their quality of life for decades and wants nothing more than to get back to making life better for her patients and enjoying her life.
Lyhen and Liz’ father Ivan are also the primary caregivers for Liz's abuela Aleida who has dementia, so her sickness means that additional caregiving support will need to be arranged for her.
Liz and her partner Justin will be traveling back to the Caribbean to be with Lyhen during this time, bringing with them many basic needs and items that are hard to get on the island. We are calling on our wider community to help ease the stress of finances during this challenging period, so that they can focus their energy on being with and supporting Lyhen. The money will be used for:
- travel costs [$2000]
- reimbursing materials and supplies they are bringing [$1000]
- six months of home health aide for abuela Aleida [$2000]
- covering more basic living needs to replace income from Lyhen, and allow for Liz and Ivan to work less during this time of intense caretaking [$1000]
