Help Toph beat Parvo.

Toph, a 10 week old husky puppy is deeply ill. We just took him home earlier this week and it is unclear exactly the source of infection. He has been fine the last few days but deteriorated precipitously this afternoon.

He hasn't learned his name yet. He is loved dearly. The feeling of watching a once lively puppy deteriorate into an ill & lethargic dog with a fatalistic future is crushing.

Parvo is every new puppy owner's worst nightmare. It’s the kind of thing that keeps you awake and paranoid as a new owner. We first noticed signs of Toph’s illness this morning and this evening we received the worst news.

Parvo strikes fast and requires extensive hospitalization to treat. There is no “cure”, but aggressive treatments to boost a puppy’s immune response are proven to work. With good care and a quick response, parvo has an optimistic survival rate. We are rushing to get Toph that care. We think we caught it early and that his odds for a good outcome are higher than most.

Unfortunately, it comes at a cost. Animal ER's are expensive - $2500 a night for Toph. Since he is so new, he is uninsured. Everything has to come out of pocket. I am looking to fundraise for his stay in the ER. Asking for money is always hard; Left untreated Parvo has a 90% fatality rate and we were not going to accept those odds. When treated, those odds are almost flipped.

We are not letting Toph go without a fight. We are hoping right now to get him through the first 72 hours.
