Help little Ralphie get healthy

Hi, thank you for finding your way to this page. We adopted Ralphie last year after being his dog sitter for several years. He was always such a sweet dog and it was a blessing for us to be given the option to give him a great home. 

A few months ago, our dachshund Ralph started getting sick. It started as an occasional cough that was initially diagnosed as kennel cough, but progressively got worse over the course of a month. After almost a dozen visits to his vet, including numerous X-rays, diagnostic tests and different medications, we don’t seem to be anywhere closer to determining the cause of his illness. He can no longer take walks due to his cough and is often times wracked with coughing fits that last for hours and sometimes through most of the night. Only a few months ago he was healthy, vibrant, always excited to go for walks on the beach or through the woods in our neighborhood. Now we can barely hold him without triggering coughing fits that visibly exhaust him. 

He is 11 years old and full of life, but the many visits to the vet and all the prescriptions are getting very costly. We didn’t initially want to start a GoFundMe because we know there are so many people out there with costly medical bills and problems and we don’t feel like we are more deserving of support than anyone else, but we are running out of options and the medical bills are difficult to keep up with. We love him so much and we want to give him the best life possible, and we hate the idea that we may not be able to afford his medical bills and be unable to get him the treatment he needs.
