Little Penny was born on Sunday 23 August.
By Monday, she was still alone in a paddock, bleating for help.
By Tuesday night, this tiny lamb was on the brink of death.
A dedicated livestock rescuer picked Penny up that evening. She was listless, barely responsive, and her eyes were rolling back into her head. Sadly, our stock vet wasn't available that night, leaving us with very limited options.
But Penny wasn't ready to give up.
Over the next 24 hours, she was carefully tube-fed. Slowly, incredibly, she began to rally.
She went from lying completely listless to lifting her head. She started trying to stand. When supported into a standing position, she could hold her own body weight.
And when she was patted, she even flinched in disgust.
That tiny bit of attitude was wonderful to see.
When a stock vet became available on Wednesday, Penny's prognosis was still considered poor, and euthanasia was recommended.
But we wanted to give Penny a chance.
After all, this little girl had already spent 24 hours crying out in a paddock and then fought her way back from the edge of death with only warmth and tube feeding.
It was clear to us that Penny wanted to live.
So Penny was admitted to hospital for intensive treatment and intravenous fluids.
Twenty-four hours later, she was standing.
And now, 48 hours after admission, we've received the most wonderful update yet: Penny has started drinking from a bottle! ❤️
For a lamb who was so close to death just days ago, this is a remarkable turnaround.
But giving Penny this chance comes at a significant cost.
Because she was so critically ill when she arrived at the veterinary hospital, her treatment has been intensive. Her vet bill has already reached $2,800, and she is likely to need several more days of veterinary care.
We have been incredibly grateful for the generosity of our supporters in the past, and we're hoping you might help us give Penny the same chance.
Every donation, no matter how small, helps us continue saying yes to animals who desperately need someone to fight for them.
We knew Penny was a sick lamb. We said yes.
If you're unable to donate, sharing Penny's story can make an enormous difference too.
Thank you for helping this little girl fight for her second chance. ❤️
