TLDR. Kit got diagnosed with cancer, went through a bunch of procedures and surgeries. They are in the clear for now but need to be closely monitored for the next few years. Raising funds to recoup costs of complimentary treatments and lost wages, and to help with stuff going forward to minimize risk of re-occurrence.

Long story, written by Kit:

A year and a half ago my doc spotted an abnormality and I was referred for further treatment. Last November I had a procedure where they removed the tumour and found out it was cancerous. After a few more procedures, I underwent a surgery on my lymph nodes to see if the cancer had spread. It hasn’t! Which is amazing and means I don’t need to undergo chemo or radiation right now. However the risk of reoccurance is high so I will be closely monitored and have to undergo routine biopsies and checkups for years until I am fully in the clear.

In the past 6 months I have spent around $2000 on different treatments, therapy, medications etc, as well as travel to and from the city for appointments. I don’t have extended health coverage through work so this has all been out of pocket. There are grants for a few of these things but I do not qualify because of a chaotic extensive student debt situation (ps. education should be free). I am hoping to continue to see my herbalist, osteopath, and naturopath going forward, to attempt to prevent re-occurrence, and to work through the inevitable decline of my mental and physical health over the past bit. I would also love to see a lymph drainage specialist if I have the money too. I work as a part-time librarian in a small rural town, and am paid just over minimum wage. I have missed many days of work for appointments, many of which weren’t paid as I eventually ran out of sick days.

So all that said, getting cancer was rough on my already small budget Thus I am looking to my community for some help to get me back on my feet, and to keep up on health stuff going forward.

I know that things are hard and everything is getting more expensive by the day and we are all just doing our best to survive. There are so many different mutual aids out there, and a lot of super important fundraisers happening that I hope you give cash to first. But if you do have any funds to spare, it would be HUGE.
