Hi! My name is Malika and it is with great grief that I must write this post.

Yesterday (July 8th), we were alerted by our neighbours that our family dog Mocco escaped from our backyard while I was away and in an attempt to try and a catch him with the help of many neighbours and strangers around the area, Mocco ran multiple blocks away far from our house. The chase went on for a good hour as our dog is a really fast runner and after putting a missing pet post, a kind stranger was able to contact us about his whereabouts. Unfortunately before we could find him ourselves, the authorities were contacted in order to catch him and Mocco was brought to a shelter nearby.

As he was admittedly very scared, agitated from the long chase and possibly being surrounded by a lot of strangers, he would not let anyone approach him and thus has sustained injuries from the metal catchpole used by the police officers to catch him.

After multiple veterinary visits, we were told that Mocco suffered multiple fractures to his jawbones, he currently has great difficulties just drinking water & eating and will be in need of surgery and extensive care as soon as possible. The surgery will require them to remove the bones that were affected by the fractures and after much deliberation with the veterinarians, they assured us that his recovery was possible. As it is a complicated surgery to perform, the veterinary fees are quite high going up to 7500$ for the surgery, the hospitalization, the anesthesia, medication, support that is needed, etc. I am hoping that with this fundraiser, we would be able to cover a partial amount of those fees. It is 7500$ for the surgery, 350$ for the medicine and an extra 700-800$ for any overnight stay.

Mocco has been with us since 2017 since his puppy days and has lived with our family through my sibling and I's teenage years to our twenties now. We are in a rough spot currently because of a recent house move but we consider him to be very dear to our family and would be immensely grateful if he could be given a second chance at life.
