Little Lamas of Nepal: Support Young Monks' Education

We are raising funds to support the Little Lamas of Nepal, a group of young Buddhist monks between the ages of 5-14 who are studying the Dharma at the Jonang Monastery in Pharping.

Our Mission

The Little Lamas of Nepal program provides educational support, basic necessities, and improved living conditions for young novice monks who have committed their lives to preserving ancient Buddhist traditions while receiving a modern education.

Our History

The Universal Compassion Buddhist Congregation has been proudly supporting the Little Lamas since 2010. For 15 years, we have sponsored ten young monks annually, providing them with comprehensive support throughout their education. As we celebrate our 15th Anniversary of partnership with these monasteries, we aim to extend our support to 15 young monks this year.

The Challenge

Many of these children come from impoverished families in remote mountain villages. The Jonang Monastery struggles with limited resources to provide:

Quality educational materials

Proper nutrition

Warm clothing for harsh mountain winters

Basic healthcare

Clean water and sanitation

Their Journey

These young monks wake before sunrise each day to begin their studies. They learn traditional Buddhist philosophy and practices alongside modern subjects like mathematics, science, and languages. Despite their young age, they show remarkable dedication to their studies and spiritual practice.

Why Now?

As we celebrate 15 years of supporting these young monks, we're committed to making an even greater impact by increasing our sponsorship from ten to fifteen Little Lamas. The upcoming year will be particularly challenging as supply costs have risen and some facilities need urgent repairs and others are newly built or expanded.
