Hi, my name is Bernice, and I am fundraising for Kwaku Osei Gyasi.
Kwaku is a 5-year-old boy from Ghana (Africa) suffering from fluctuating intensity of health conditions since the age of 3 months. Initially, nystagmus was observed, followed by squint (cross eyes) and subsequently torticollis. After using prescribed glasses at 7 months, he had surgery at 2 years to correct the squint. Medical reports from Ghana mentioned a possible connection with an inflammatory disease; however, subsequent examinations ruled out any ongoing inflammation. A brain CT scan and MRI were done in Ghana, which was originally described as normal, with only sinusitis mentioned as an incidental finding.
Currently, his head is tilted to the left with his ear almost touching the shoulder - severe torticollis. The left half of his face drooped with the left cheek sagging. The eyes are partially rotated compensatorily towards the right side.
Based on findings and challenges with getting the recurrent inflammations of the eyes and neck tilting to one side resolved, after extensively seeking the opinions of various specialists, it was agreed on seeking treatment and/or management outside Ghana where skills and technologies are more advanced.
A current brain MRI has found a T2 hyperintense lesion in the lower cerebellar peduncle, affecting the left half of the lower part of the brainstem (oblongata). The primary consideration in the differential diagnosis is a low-grade glioma.
Brain surgery is recommended considering a partial resection (plus open biopsy) of the process and histopathological examination.
We're reaching out to you to help support Kwaku and his family. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, can make an incredible difference. We would be extremely grateful for any donation that will be used towards the payment of Kwaku's surgery & ongoing rehab before and after the surgery.
Please keep praying for this amazing little boy and his family in this most challenging time.
