Hi, everyone. As some of you know, last night Daniel and I came home to find a young kitten crying in our parking garage. We gave her some food and were going to set up a place for her to sleep when we noticed her limping. We were able to get her into a cat carrier pretty easily. It took about 15 minutes to gain her trust, and after that, she was perfectly fine with head rubs. She obviously has spent time around people/in a home. I got her to the emergency vet last night, and we were there until about 3 a.m. this morning. $1,100 dollars and some "free" waiting room coffee later, I know there is a big break in her leg, there are pretty pictures of the break in her leg, and she is all splinted up. The emergency vet quoted $9,000 for the surgery but urged me to go find a more affordable place and gave me a list.
Little one (we are calling her Kia...because we found her under a Kia) is looking at either surgery on her back leg, or more likely given the location and severity of the break, amputation (which I guess would make her a front-wheel drive Kia versus all-wheel drive). She and I are headed to the surgery center that was recommended at 9 a.m. tomorrow. She also needs to be treated for fleas, get her shots so she can be adopted, and get spayed (that surgery is another month or two away).
I absolutely refuse to let this baby suffer or risk being put down due to a fixable problem, but the cost is going to be a hurdle. Daniel and I have figured out how to cover about half of the expected costs, but we need some help. I feel very weird putting this together and asking for help when so many of you literally just donated to help out with my wildfire relief projects, but several have asked if there was going to be a GoFundMe for Kia set up so they could help. Absolutely no pressure to donate, and any little bit helps.
Kia is currently being fostered for the next week or two by our old neighbors because Daniel and I are out of town this weekend. We don't know much about our brave little girl, but we do know:
- This is a sweet baby girl
- The vet says she otherwise is healthy
- She purrs LOUDLY
- She has a super cute little meow
- She loves food...the way she eats makes me think she hasn't had a reliable food source for a while with her injury keeping her from being able to hunt
- She is drinking, eating, going to the potty just fine
- She makes lots of biscuits
- She loves snuggles
Any funds raised are going straight to Kia's vet bills, recovery, and basic living expenses. Anything that is beyond that will get donated to a kitten rescue or put in the general fund at the emergency vet to cover the expenses of another fur baby.
