This is the story of Jupiter, a bright, playful, cheeky 4-year-old boy who is currently living with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
It is also the story of his family, whose world has been turned upside down in a matter of weeks.
Just 7 weeks ago, Jupiter was rushed into hospital with what appeared to be an infection. It quickly became septic. He became critically unwell and required urgent treatment to keep him alive.
In those early days, he needed 4 blood transfusions alongside multiple procedures. His body went through an immense amount in a very short time.
Further testing led to a diagnosis of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Since then, life has completely changed for this family.
Jupiter has now been in hospital for 7 weeks. During this time, he has faced 5 infections while beginning chemotherapy and steroids.
He is coming to the end of the first phase of treatment. At the halfway point, doctors confirmed he was responding well. This has brought some much-needed hope.
However, this is the beginning of a long road.
The course is 108 weeks long. We are 4 weeks in now.
Jupiter is facing 2 years of chemotherapy, at least 5 days a week, alongside regular procedures, monitoring, and a very high level of care at home.
The family are hoping he can soon be transferred to Exeter Hospital, closer to home. This would make a significant difference to daily life.
Even when Jupiter returns home, his care will remain constant. Ongoing hospital visits, strict infection control, and close supervision will be part of daily life.
If you have ever met Jupiter, you will know his nature. He turns everything into a game and runs a very serious pretend café where everyone is welcome. He is 4 years old, and he is meeting this with everything he has.
He loves to play, negotiate for snacks, and light up a room. That hasn’t gone away.
Adding to the intensity of everything. Jess– Jupiter’s Mum, is 7.5 months pregnant right now and has recently lost her father.
The family are due to bring in a new baby in just 6 weeks time, as Juptier comes home to settle into a rhythm of 108 weeks of treatment.
Phoenix, Jupiter’s identical twin brother - is also going through a huge amount. He is missing his twin brother and has lost his best friend and soul mate - having to do things on his own, and trying to make sense of a situation no 4-year-old should have to face.
Both parents have had to step back from work to care for Jupiter. Simon is doing everything he can, but his capacity to work has been massively reduced at exactly the moment the family needs more support, not less.
The reality of caring for a seriously unwell child, while also being pregnant and supporting another young child, has had a significant impact on the family’s ability to work and manage everyday life. The financial pressure, alongside the emotional toll, is immense.
This fund has been set up to help ease that burden.
Donations will go towards essential living costs, travel to and from hospital, childcare for Phoenix, and practical help at home, so the family can focus on caring for Jupiter and maintaining some stability around him.
Any contribution will make a real difference.
Thank you to everyone who has shown love, kindness and support so far. It truly means more than words can say.
My name is Michelle. I have known Jess, Jupiter’s mum, for 32 years.
We grew up together. She is an incredible, strong and devoted mother. What they are going through is beyond comprehension, so myself and her friend Georgia, who she met in Bali, have set up this page to support Jess and Simon through this.
All funds will go directly to Jess and Simon to support their family.
Please share this story as widely as you can.
Thank you so much
