Hi, my name is Katie, and I help with TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) efforts in my community to give stray cats a safer, healthier life.

Recently, one of the young cats we had neutered developed severe and unexpected complications. He is only about six months old and weighs just 2.5 pounds. He is extremely malnourished, dehydrated, and very weak. When he was found, he was lying unconscious and limp under a deck.

He has since been evaluated by multiple veterinarians. The critical care team suspects a severe whipworm infection, complicated by his recovery from anesthesia and surgery. He is currently fighting for his life in the ICU and has been there for several days.

When he was admitted, his condition was critical. His potassium levels were dangerously high, his sodium dangerously low, and his blood pressure was critically low. Thankfully, with intensive treatment and medication, those levels have stabilized for now. He has been able to tolerate small amounts of syringe-fed food. Yesterday he was able to lift his head, and today he managed to sit up — small but hopeful signs of progress.

He is still very sick. He experienced a drop in blood sugar and has some kidney damage. He remains on IV fluids, antibiotics, dewormers, heating support, frequent lab work, and around-the-clock monitoring. It is unknown how long he will need to stay in the ICU before he can safely be cared for at home.

He may be a stray, but he deserves a chance at life.

The cost of his care has already exceeded $6,000 in just a few days, and it continues to rise. Any donation, no matter the amount, would mean the world and go directly toward his lifesaving treatment.
