Help Little Friends Lefkas
Donation protected
In Spring 2020 I arrived in Lefkada, Greece and became involved with a dedicated group of friends who a long time ago began caring for the stray dogs on the island. Over the years they’ve re-homed hundreds of dogs, the occasional cat and even a sheep once! Through hard work and determination they’ve gained a handle on the situation.
Sallie, Marta and David at Little Friends Lefkas are the wonderful people devoting their everyday lives to caring for our favourite four legged friends. With the help of a few local volunteers they care for up to 40+ dogs at a time. All of which need feeding, cleaning, vaccinating, micro chipping, walking and socialising before they go on to their forever homes. Homes which are hand selected to match the doggie and their individual personalities and needs.
Aside the tiring physical routine their job is at times heartbreaking. Finding many puppies is desperate situations from those physically abused to those abandoned as whole litters, dumped anywhere from the local river to the nearest bins.
Whilst they’ve had a huge impact on the local stray population, I’m amazed to see that more and more doggies in need are discovered each week. Since March 2020 I’ve lost count of how many doggies they’ve successfully re-homed, changing the lives of both the puppies and the families they join forever. Little Friends Lefkas will help each and every one they can. However, they begin the winter with almost 40 mouths to feed. Covid and lockdown have cancelled each of this years fundraising efforts and money is running tight. I’d love to raise enough funding to cover this winters food requirements but at around 15€ per day it feels a tall order. Everyone is trying to help in their own way and with a small donation you can too.
