Help Little Ayan Defeat Thalassemia: [Urgent Med]

Donation protected
Dear friends, compassionate supporters, and fellow believers in miracles,

Ayan's journey began on a sunny day, October 11, 2020, bringing immeasurable joy to his parents, Nimmi Basnayake and Anuradha Basnayake. He was a healthy and adorable baby boy, and his parents cherished every moment of his early life. Their joy knew no bounds until Ayan turned 10 months old.

How it all started

In August 2021, Ayan developed an unrelenting fever, and his worried parents rushed him to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, this coincided with the severe spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka, and tragedy struck when Ayan's mother, Nimmi, also contracted the virus. Both Ayan and his mother found themselves in the confines of the hospital, battling against the twin adversaries of thalassemia and Covid-19. While Nimmi eventually recovered, Ayan continued to suffer from recurrent fevers. Concerned doctors conducted a series of tests, and the results revealed a devastating truth: Ayan was diagnosed with thalassemia.

Thalassemia, an inherited blood disorder, occurs when the body fails to produce sufficient amounts of hemoglobin, a vital protein in red blood cells. This deficiency leads to a reliance on external blood transfusions, which, over time, can cause excessive iron buildup in crucial organs, posing life-threatening risks.

The Shocking News - A Beacon of Hope: Bone Marrow Transplant

The news of Ayan's condition shattered his parents' world, plunging them into a state of shock and disbelief. However, within their shattered hearts, a spark of hope ignited. Nimmi and Anuradha were determined to explore every avenue and seek the best possible treatment for their beloved son. They discovered that a bone marrow transplant performed by Professor Lalindra Goonarathne , a renowned hematologist at Asiri Central Hospital in Colombo, offered a glimmer of hope for Ayan's complete recovery. The mere possibility of restoring their son's health rekindled their resolve never to give up.

The Good News - Family's Determination

However, the cost of the necessary surgery and subsequent care proved to be an insurmountable obstacle. Ayan's parents learned that the estimated expenses for the procedure and hospital bills amounted to a staggering 10 million rupees (Rs.10,000,000). With unwavering determination, they decided to liquidate their assets and reached out to the compassionate public for assistance. Through their sheer determination and the generosity of others, they managed to gather a significant portion of the required funds, placing them on the precipice of hope.

A Desperate Situation: Soaring Medical Expenses

Sadly, fate had other plans for Ayan and his family. Sri Lanka was gripped by an economic and political crisis, causing widespread chaos and disruption across various sectors, including healthcare. Fuel shortages, prolonged power cuts, and ongoing protests paralyzed the country, affecting the daily lives of its citizens. The medical sector, in particular, bore the brunt of these challenges. The importation of crucial drugs and medical supplies faced severe delays, leading to the indefinite postponement of Ayan's surgery. Helplessly, Ayan's parents watched as their son's window of opportunity slowly closed before their eyes.

As if the situation wasn't dire enough, the cost of the necessary drugs and surgery surged exponentially. The initial estimate of 8 million rupees had soared to an unbearable 12 million rupees. This exorbitant amount included not only the surgery and hospital bills but also expenses for chemotherapy, obtaining test reports from India, and managing post-surgery complications. The cumulative costs now stood at a staggering 20 million rupees (Rs. 20,000,000), plunging Ayan's parents into a state of despair and hopelessness.
  • surgery and hospital bills
  • cost for chemotherapy
  • for the test reports to be obtained from India,
  • treating post-surgery complications etc., which made Ayan’s parents hopeless and desperate.

Determined parents start raising funds again, but the TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

However, this family's love knows no bounds, and they refuse to surrender. Ayan's parents have embarked on a tireless fundraising campaign, seeking assistance from anyone with a compassionate heart. As of today, they have managed to raise nearly 13.5 million rupees, leaving a shortfall of 6.5 million rupees (approximately 30,300 USD). Time is of the essence for little Ayan, as doctors emphasize the urgent need for surgery to avoid further complications. Ayan's parents believe fervently that their prayers will be answered and that their impassioned plea will resonate with kind-hearted individuals like yourself.
