Help Lita Rebuild a Life of Creativity and Resistance

Who is Lita?
Lita—born Karla Vinueza—is a first‑generation Ecuadorian‑American experimental artist, DJ, and creative technologist. Her work spans sound design, hardware engineering, immersive installations, and custom audiovisual systems. Grounded in decolonial frameworks and open‑source pedagogy, Lita fashions community‑centered projects that unite sound, code, image, and storytelling as tools for memory, resistance, and transformation
Her creative practices include:

Sonic Liberation Devices (SLDs): DIY, accessible instruments that serve not just as music tools—but as vessels for protest, memory, and collective care

Basement Tapes: A vital audio‑visual livestream archive for preserving Queer, BIPOC, and underrepresented DJs through analog video synthesis, Raspberry Pi VJ setups, visuals shaped by CRT distortion, and more Instagram

Lita holds an MA in Interactive Telecommunications from NYU Tisch (2024), dual BAs from Texas State University, and has lectured at institutions like NYU, Parsons, Berklee, and facilitated creative workshops with Dazed Archive in partnership with Intel and Lenovo

What’s Happened
A catastrophic basement flood—triggered by overwhelming heat-storm rainfall and sewage backup—devastated Lita’s home and creative sanctuary. She has lost everything:
Personal items—clothing, vintage TV, books, bed, and the emotional comfort of home.
Critical documents and original art.

Her entire DJ and streaming studio: 4 Pioneer CDJ-2000X decks, 4 DJ mixers (including a DJM-900 and video mixer), microphones, lighting setup, and livestream gear for Basement Tapes.
Essential tools and materials for her Sonic Liberation Devices and liberation technology work.
And most painfully—the home she shared with her loyal 6-year-old dog.

As the eldest child of immigrant parents, Lita carries not only her own creative dreams, but the hopes of her family and community. This disaster has ripped away her art, her safe space, and her ability to continue building digital worlds of care and resistance.

Why $20,000 Matters

Your contribution will help Lita:
Secure Safe Housing – immediately relocate with her dog into a stable, flood-free apartment.
Rebuild Her Creative Studio – replace essential DJ and streaming hardware, tools for SLD creation, lighting, production gear, and her livestream setup.
Restore Her Artistic Vision – regain the ability to create, teach, perform, and sustain the open-source, decolonial projects she’s cultivated for years.

Every dollar supports not just Lita, but the communities she uplifts—those often erased voices and experimental visions she amplifies through Basement Tapes, SLDs and creative archiving.

How You Can Help
Donate: Even small amounts move her closer to $20,000 and a renewed creative life.
Share: Spread her story across your network—creators, DJs, activists, art communities, and beyond.
Support: Reach out if you can offer equipment, housing leads, or creative collaboration.
Let’s help Lita continue shaping sonic worlds of liberation—one song, one livestream, one device at a time.

Thank you for your solidarity, compassion, and creative care.
