April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and we celebrate all those who struggle every day with this disease.
Lisa McKinnon is a very dear friend who is facing some pretty tough times as she makes a step to better her health in the coming months. She could really use some help financially to get through surgery and recovery since she won't have any income to pay bills during that time. I told her I would like to try a GoFundMe for her so she doesn't have to stress about the bills so much. I know many people will want to help Lisa because she has ALWAYS been the one extending a helping hand.
"I was diagnosed in 2004, yep, 22 years of this, and now the medications are not working as they should. About 6 months ago, they began making me sick. Thankfully, with the research and milestones that have been achieved, there are alternatives that can improve my life. I have thought and prayed about this for a long time…years, in fact. I am not able to continue with oral meds, so I am choosing to have Deep Brain Stimulation surgery. This is NOT a cure but it will improve my symptoms considerably. It has been a gift for so many Parkies.
The surgery is in two parts, and of course, it is risky. I will begin all the testing in May, and I am hoping to have the surgery in July-ish. I have been put on a waiting list for an earlier date, but we know how that goes.
The recovery is about 2 months if everything goes well, and I expect it will. I will not be able to drive during that time and therefore will not be able to work, so that puts me in a dilemma for sure. I will have no income during this recovery period so I am asking for your help.
"I am humbled by the support of my friends and family all these years. You guys ROCK!
In support of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, keep all the “Parkies” and their family and friends in your prayers. They could use them continually.
I cherish your prayers, and I look forward to my new life!! I will keep you updated!
HUG A PARKY!!!!
