Lisa and I met last year and hit it off right away. We quickly discovered that we knew several of the same families—one of the perks of growing up in a small area. My own family goes back generations in Wirt County, so it felt like we had an instant connection.
Last summer, Lisa started a new medication, and within a couple of months she began experiencing serious health complications. By fall, she had lost much of her ability to walk and use her hands. She also struggled to keep food or liquids down, which led to a rapid and significant loss of weight. Everyday tasks quickly became incredibly challenging.
Despite seeing multiple doctors and specialists, the cause/diagnosis is still being investigated. At this point, Lisa cannot drive and needs assistance with many daily activities such as bathing, opening pill bottles, and preparing meals. The sudden change in her health has been overwhelming both physically and emotionally, turning her world upside down.
Since September, Lisa has been unable to work and has had to rely on family support to manage daily living expenses. On top of all this, Lisa is frantically trying to navigate an administrative issue that caused the VA to terminate the spousal benefits she's received since he passed away several years ago. Unfortunately those benefits were the only finances left after exhausting her savings.
Lisa is also a devoted mother to her disabled son, who recently returned home and depends on her support.
How your support helps:
Funds raised through this fundraiser will help cover essential living expenses, including:
- Housing and utilities for her and her son
- Medical expenses and Insurance
- Food and daily living costs
- Transportation to medical appointments
- Support while she wades through the SSA Disability process
Lisa has spent 32 years caring for others as a dedicated nurse, and now she needs some help while she navigates her own health crisis. She wants to point out that how much she has appreciated the love and help she has received from her father, sister, daughter, son and others over the last several months.
Any support you can offer will make a meaningful difference in Lisa’s life. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing this fundraiser would mean so much to her and those who care about her.
We are deeply grateful for your kindness and support.
