Urgent: Help Lisa (62) Stay Housed After Partner's Loss
Deadline: May 15th

Hi, I’m Lisa—a name some might remember from Cookeville High or time in Murfreesboro, and today I'm based in Nashville. Life has thrown challenges my way that I never anticipated facing alone.
After building a career in finance and running our family video store, FOX VIDEO, in Murfreesboro, health issues and family losses took me back to Cookeville. Later, my partner Rob and I moved to Nashville seeking better opportunities, but unfortunately contended with a bout of homelessness from December 2022 until May 2024. We were living in hotels and staying in Rob's custom Chevrolet Van, but the high cost of Nashville living left us struggling to obtain a permanent place. Thankfully, by May 2024, we finally secured an apartment. It was only 6 months in our new home that we learned of Rob's diagnosis. After 20 years together, everything changed when Rob was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and passed away on January 15th, 2025, 2 months after his diagnosis.
His passing left me not only heartbroken but financially stranded. At 62 and entirely dependent on SSDI benefits ($2,230/month), I cannot afford our $1,600 rent alone. I fall within 100-150% of poverty guidelines, with nearly 75% of my income going to rent. I have no vehicle, savings, assets, and there was no estate for Rob.
I'm struggling to afford multiple essentials. From basics like household items, hygiene, medications, and medical equipment, including COPD breathing treatments, heart medication, arthritis relief, Crohn's disease management, and musculoskeletal support. Recently, I relied on charity assistance to keep my electricity connected. Without urgent help by May 15th, I face eviction and potential homelessness, again.
Why I Need Your Support:
__________________________________________________________
April Rent (Rob's Share): $800 (Due April 5th)
May Rent (Rob's Share): $800 (Due May 1st)
Loan Repayments: $425 (Due April 3, May 3)
Moving Costs: $900 (Truck rental + deposit)
Medications & Essentials: $375 (Rx's, supplies, necessities)
Moving Help + Costs: $500 (Disabled can't self-move)
** ($350 title loan against daughter's car + $75 payday loan)

Total Needed: $3,800
My Path Forward:
Moving to Cookeville would reduce rent costs by 60%. My daughter (26), a waitress, has offered to move in and provide care giving and support while splitting living costs. This would allow her to pursue educational opportunities while helping me manage complex health needs. I currently receive Meals on Wheels and have applied for Section 8 housing, HUD vouchers, and senior assistance programs—all with wait lists extending for months.
Nashville has become unmanageable on my fixed income without Rob's support. A recent court dismissal of one debt (due to my SSDI protections and financial hardship) provides temporary relief. I'm exploring similar solutions for remaining obligations while working to secure stable housing before May's end.
