My name is Lisa, and I'm 61 years old. Life has taken an unexpected turn for me recently. After being laid off from my job in November 2025, I found myself relying on unemployment for the first time in my life. Unfortunately, it's not enough to cover my basic needs, and I've been fortunate to have my sister and brother-in-law help keep me afloat. Still, I don't want to continue being a burden to them, and it's been difficult to ask for help.

On top of the financial strain, I recently underwent cervical spine surgery. My health challenges have made it even harder to manage daily life and keep up with the home I've loved for over 25 years. There are important safety updates I need—like a back porch with safety rails, repairs and a new rail for the front porch, and railing for my basement steps inside. Medical expenses and other costs have also added up, making things feel overwhelming at times.

This is something I never thought I would do, and I feel both ashamed and embarrassed to ask for help. I know everyone is struggling right now, and even simple things like groceries have become so expensive. Please know that any help I receive will not go unnoticed.
