My sister, Lisa Leisek (age 48), lost her third battle with cancer on Sunday, July 27th. Her first battle was at age 30. She went through surgery, chemo, and radiation while caring for her two year old son. Her second battle was after her marriage dissolved, she lost regular contact with her teenage son whom she loved very much, and she lost her home. A very quiet, private, and determined person, she struggled on her own for a long time without telling family and friends. She retained the hope that her health would improve and she would find work and housing. Her health worsened and another tumor was found and surgically removed.
Two years later, they found uterine cancer that had spread to other organs in her body. She had stayed so positive and quiet about her condition, that it was a big shock when my mother got a call from the hospital to tell us that Lisa was dying. Ten days later, my sister was gone.
Lisa will be the fourth child my mother has mourned and buried. At the age of 47, my mother lost her beloved husband, and had to find ways to provide for and raise us. Now she is struggling to afford the costs of another unexpected tragedy.
We are asking for your help. Please give what you can to help our family. Prayers will also be appreciated. Thank you.
