Help Lisa Keep the Independence She Just Found

Living with a degenerative brittle bone disease Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Lisa has sustained over 100 fractures, numerous reconstructive and orthopaedic surgeries and countless, daily joint dislocations.
Until October last year, life had become unmanageable and she spent most of her days in bed with chronic pain.

For the past five months though, Lisa has been living a life that once seemed impossible.

She’s been planting and caring for her dream garden, building a hobby farm, going to the beach, attending festivals, walking her dog and moving freely through the world again.
A remarkable mobility device made that possible.
After 15 months of reports and supervised trials, that independence is now about to be taken away.

Lisa has already been using the device for months - and the difference has been extraordinary.
Here’s Lisa’s story in her own words.

Back in October 2025, I applied for funding for an Omeo mobility device as my manual wheelchair was completely useless anywhere other than on the concrete floor in the farm shed we are renovating to become our dream, fully accessible home.

With two independent OT reports and two extended supervised trials - all photographed and videoed - the NDIS agreed to fund the hire of an Omeo until a plan reviewer could sign off on the purchase of one.

Five months on, I’m still using the hire Omeo and running a hobby farm from it. I go to the beach, attend festivals, walk Charlie, take the bins out, drag huge carts of mulch around the property and heaps more.
For the first time in decades, I feel as though I am valuable and am able to contribute a lot to life.

I’m outside more often than I’m not now and life has been the best it’s been in years.

Omeo has become part of me and it’s opened up a life of independence, purpose, freedom and finally hope for the first time in decades.

I’ve never had an accident in it - not even a mishap. The technology fits my needs, my lifestyle, my disability and my limitations. There is no chance neither I nor my husband would want a mobility device that was even a remote risk to my safety.
In short, it hasn’t just changed my life - it’s saved it.
Without it, I won’t be able to safely leave the four walls of the farm shed we live in and will be stuck in bed.

Two days ago we received a call from the NDIS advising they have rejected our application for funding and that I will have to return the Omeo to the distributor.
The reason given was simply: “It’s a safety issue.”

There has been no explanation of how it is unsafe for me, no justification for the reasoning and no proof provided - despite the NDIS happily paying $770 per week to hire one since October.

I am now waiting for instructions on when the hire unit has to be returned.
Once that happens, my world will simply stop.
I won’t be able to leave our home, go to the shops or even open the front gate.
I will have zero access to anywhere beyond the inside of our home.
The decision to decline funding based on a safety risk is completely unfounded and unsubstantiated.

Lisa has already proven what life looks like with the right mobility and independence.
Now we have a chance to make sure she doesn’t lose it.
If enough people give a little, we can make this happen.
We’re raising $45,000 to purchase an Omeo mobility device so Lisa can keep the freedom she has fought so hard to regain.
If you’re able to donate, thank you.
If you can’t donate, sharing this could help change one life.
