“The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others.” —Albert Schweitzer
A genuine spirit with a heart of gold, Lisa Johns’s greatest gift is to help and give to others. Lisa has impacted youth for well over two decades at ISAAC and the surrounding New London County area. With the passing of her son, Christopher, she became the voice and light to bring awareness to the severity of drug addiction. Through this process, Lisa became a founder of the nonprofit group, Community Speaks Out, helping to pass new laws and regulations as well as providing education to students through school presentations. Lisa’s work has saved many lives in assisting individuals through the recovery process. She has always been available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to rush to the needs of others, providing valuable resources. Her life has been to serve and help others with such compassion that it is now time for us to show the same for her.
This last May, Lisa had not been feeling well. Her blood pressure was uncontrollable, causing several visits to Urgent Care. Due to an incident of fainting, Lisa acquired a concussion, and it became apparent that an extensive evaluation was necessary. While Lisa was already on very high doses of heart medications, they have since doubled to a point where she is maxed out on the amount that she can take. Blood testing has revealed that she has a type of blood cancer called Polycythemia as well as a rare tumor that has still not been found.
Lisa has had very expensive EKGs, MRIs, and CAT scans. Through these, the doctors have found 3 tumors. One has been removed through an endoscopy. Another is a growing tumor in her abdominal wall that has grown into her stomach, and a new one was recently found within her lung. It was also discovered that an artery in her kidney is blocked, and she will need a stent in place for that.
This last year has brought so much personal happiness for Lisa to be in Florida with her daughter, Monica. She continues her mission of giving and helping others, but she is at a point where medical bills are mounting on credit cards, there are upcoming surgical bills, as well as struggles with her new household expenses. Given her medical coverage, she must pay 20% of all medical bills. LISA NEEDS OUR HELP! As much as she has helped others, we hope that this positive karma can be returned to her. Please consider donating to ease the financial burden as one thing she can worry less about. It would also be appreciated to leave well wishes and favorite memories to show our love and support to her. Thank you!
