Help Lisa Green Win Round 2 With Cancer!
As some of you know, Lisa is unfortunately fighting another battle with cancer.
The Backstory:
In 2016 Lisa was diagnosed with stage three/four Non-Hodgkin’s Follicular Lymphoma. This diagnosis came during her second year as a Human Nutrition Sciences student. However, her diagnosis didn’t slow her down one bit as she completed her degree, graduating with honors in June 2019. Her Follicular Lymphoma diagnosis also spurred her to start powerlifting, and in the same year she graduated, she placed bronze at the Manitoba Powerlifting Provincials.
In December 2019, while a dietetic intern, Lisa developed a major clot in her leg which meant putting her internship on hold and starting chemo treatment. Lisa’s chemo treatments began in January 2020, and on July 27th she toasted to six months treatment complete. She didn’t know it on the day treatment completed, but following treatment there was no Follicular Lymphoma anywhere in her body. It was in complete remission.
Lisa’s Today Story:
In the very same week as completing her six-cycle Follicular treatment, Lisa felt off and some new and strange symptoms developed. She developed swelling around the brain and needed emergency brain surgery to place a shunt to relieve the pressure. This unfortunately revealed (after countless different scans) that she has a new, unrelated CNS Lymphoma, which is an aggressive brain cancer.
Lisa has started a new second regime of high-dose aggressive chemo that will be followed with bone marrow transplant, and this second regime has impacted her far more than her first, and more than initially expected.
Helping Lisa’s Future Story:
Navigating this new cancer diagnosis is ever changing and uncertain. They are anticipating at least six months’ treatment time for chemo and the autologous marrow transplant, but Lisa’s doctors keep reminding them that Lisa, like this CNS Lymphoma, is a rare and unique case. A cure is possible, and they are moving forward with hope.
Since the beginning, Lisa has had her supportive partner Christopher Martens by her side – at times her partner, at times her own personal nurse. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and Lisa having a compromised immune system, both Lisa and Christopher have not been able to work since March.
Lisa won the first round in her battle with Lymphoma. This campaign is raising funds to make the financial aspect of this experience less uncertain, so Lisa can focus on kicking this second Lymphoma, and Christopher can focus on being her number one!
Thank you so much for all your love, support, and good wishes during this incredibly challenging time. Lisa and Christopher both really appreciate it!
