My name is Lisa, and for the past two years, I have been battling gastric cancer. I was first diagnosed in 2016, and after a period of remission, the cancer returned in 2023. Since then, my life has been a series of treatments, doctor visits, and constant worry about my health and future. My only source of income is SSI, which barely covers my basic needs, let alone the extra costs that come with fighting cancer.

One of the biggest challenges I’m facing right now is getting to my medical appointments. I recently lost the registration for my car, which means I have no reliable way to travel for my treatments. This has caused me to miss several important appointments, adding even more stress to an already difficult situation. Each missed visit feels like a setback in my fight against cancer, and it’s been hard to keep up hope when transportation is such a barrier.

My family has done what they can to help, but they have their own jobs and responsibilities. Asking for help from others is not easy for me—I have a lot of pride—but I know I can’t do this alone.
