Help Lisa fight second battle with NH Lymphoma
Donation protected
My name is Lisa. I am a health care worker, single mother of one very incredible child, and am currently undergoing cancer treatment for the second time. What scares me the most about this second fight is the real possibility I may not survive the financial devastation caused by this illness.
I was first diagnosed with stage four Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2015. I had multiple tumors, many of which were sticking right out of my body, and I was terrified. Despite my unwavering faith in God, a very positive attitude, and strong determination to overcome all challenges, I remember begging God “please just let me live long enough to see my 16-year-old son graduate High School.”
With the Grace of God and much love from friends and family, I did get to see my son graduate and go on to get accepted to an outstanding college.
I went into remission in 2016 and began a new mission. I have always chosen jobs that focused on making a difference in the lives of others. I had previously worked teaching and coordinating school programs for low-income, high risk children, and as an AIDS prevention outreach worker in poverty-stricken areas, but now I wanted to “give back” for the outstanding care I received from the doctors, PA’s, NP’s, and other staff that saved my life. So I returned to college to study medical terminology and have worked for the past two years at a medical center front desk helping support more than 400 patients and medical staff weekly.
Once again my life took and unexpected turn; a recent check-up and biopsy revealed my cancer had returned. As a result, I began treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and multiple tumors on March 21st, 2019. I will be out from work for two to three months and have no other means of income. Even with “good” health insurance, the staggering cost of cancer treatments, labs, scans, co-pays, co-insurance, transportation, lodging, prescriptions, along with two months of regular living expenses will total more than $15,000.
While I know I need to focus what little energy I have on enduring the horrible side effects of this cancer treatment and staying positive and strong in the face of this disease, I am instead consumed by worries and fears of whether I will be able to financially survive this illness. It is for this reason I am reaching out for financial support.
I greatly appreciate any help you can offer at this time. My hope is to be able to return in a few months to doing what I love most, making a positive difference in the lives of others through my work in healthcare.
With Love, Gratitude, and Blessings to you,
Lisa
