If you know Lisa Callaway, you know that she is a strong and tough woman with a heart of gold. Less than two years ago, we came together to help Lisa fight cervical cancer...and fight it she did! With cancer in remission and a clean bill of health she continued on with living her best life. Recently, Lisa found out that the cancer is back. The same cancer has now metastized in the lower part of her right lung.
This cancer diagnosis has been devastating and is very trying for Lisa both mentally and physically. This is the last thing she needs to go through!
Because Lisa is a 15 year (almost 16 years this summer!) heart transplant recipient, her doctors at Stanford want her to have all her treatments there, where they can monitor her health. This means she will have to be 300+ miles away from home.
We will be relying on friends and family to take her up and back If you would like to help out in this capacity, please let us know. It is a big time commitment, as the infusions go for about 8 hours. Since they are early morning, that means leaving at 3 am from home. If this becomes too hard on Lisa, we will need to find lodging, either a hotel or Airbnb for those trips.
Lisa has suffered a lot throughout her life when it comes to medical ailments, including Ventricular Tachycardia, Diabetes, several crushed vertabrae due to medication, etc, plus cancer. She has also endured several major surgeries and came out of them on top. She is the true definition of a FIGHTER.
She is a simple chicken farmer and has provided fresh eggs for the community for several years. But even that won't be enough to help with the financial burden this new diagnosis will cause.
We are hoping this $10,000 goal will be enough, but any little bit helps. Even if you donate the cost of a dozen eggs, that will help immensely. The next few months and beyond are going to be tough. Lisa will need to go to Stanford every 3 weeks for chemotherapy. The hope is to stop the cancer from spreading and then other options, surgery, and radiation will be discussed.
Your donations and assistance are greatly appreciated. Lisa would prefer not to ask for help, but her family and group of friends (Team Lisa!) know that she can't do this alone. Your donations will be used for the cost of getting to treatments and everything that goes along with it. It will also be used to supplement her cost of living while she recovers from treatments and fights cancer. We want to take the financial burden and worry from her so she can focus on her health.
I have known Lisa since we were 3 years old. She helps her friends, gives back to the community, is a mentor, a mother, has never met a stranger and is the most generous person I know. It is an honor for me to help in this capacity and show her that as much as she helps others, we want to help her.
