Help Lisa Crowell Get Life-Saving Brain Surgery

Lisa needs our help!

Our sweet neighbor, mother, grandmother, and dear friend, Lisa Crowell, was diagnosed with a large brain tumor on August 30th. The headaches she had been attributing to stress were actually due to a 6-centimeter meningioma located under her right occipital and temporal lobes. While meningiomas are usually benign, this one is very large, and a craniotomy and resection is the only option. This is a complex and dangerous surgery, with a recovery time of 12 to 20 weeks.

As if that wasn’t enough…

On July 26th, after 16 dedicated years at Remington Hotels, Lisa was suddenly laid off—through no fault of her own. Although profoundly impacted by the loss of employment, she was making great progress towards finding a new job, when she received this diagnosis. Returning to the workforce will now have to be significantly delayed.

Fortunately, Lisa has continued her insurance coverage through COBRA, but the premiums are quite high. To make matters worse, last winter she broke her right wrist and right arm in two separate falls, likely due to balance issues caused by the brain tumor. These injuries severely impacted her savings, as she didn’t have enough sick leave to cover the time off needed. She currently rents her home and has no significant assets to liquidate or borrow against.

Lisa has already had surgery to repair her wrist but still needs another surgery to repair tears in her rotator cuff. As soon as she’s cleared by her neurosurgeon, she will need to schedule the shoulder surgery for sometime in November, leaving her recovering from two major surgeries at once.

What We’re Raising Funds For:

We hope to raise enough money to pay for all of Lisa’s medical expenses that are not covered by insurance, as well as her COBRA premiums and other essentials until she can return to work, hopefully early next year. Lisa’s immediate and upcoming expenses include:

Lisa is the primary provider for her household, and there is no realistic way to make up for the loss of income during her recovery. The length of her recovery is uncertain. Depending on how completely the neurosurgeon can remove the tumor, she may need further procedures, including radiosurgery, in the coming months.

Our primary goal is to raise enough to cover Lisa’s pending medical bills, which are causing her the most stress right now. We want her to focus her energy on getting through these surgeries and healing. If we raise more than expected, all additional funds will go towards any future medical procedures as well as her basic living expenses during her long and uncertain recovery.

To know Lisa is to know the most beautiful parts of humanity. She is deeply kind, generous, and loving to everyone she meets. As a devoted mother and grandmother, she extends that love to all her friends, neighbors, and their children. She truly deserves all the help we can offer.
