Help Lisa combat MALS syndrome
Donation protected
Lisa is a mother, wife, paramedic, adventurer, and amazing friend. She lives in rural Vermont with her daughter Abbigail, and husband Scott. At the end of January 2021 Lisa was diagnosed with Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome (MALS) after a 4 year battle with a “mystery illness” that had stumped many doctors. MALS is an extremely rare disorder that compromises blood flow and nerve signals to the abdomen. Symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, electrolyte problems, hypoglycemia, and weight loss. The pain from MALS has been compared to stage 4 pancreatic cancer, because it effects the same nerves. These symptoms are increased any time Lisa eats, or is physically active. Due to the rarity of the syndrome, there are very few surgeons in the world that treat MALS. Lisa must travel hours, one way, for treatment which requires her to stay in hotels or airbnb's. This is financially taxing, as Lisa is the sole provider for her family. Lisa's husband is a childhood cancer survivor and is unable to work because of long lasting side effects from treatment. There is still a long road ahead for Lisa, so we are asking for donations to help ease the burden on her family throughout this time. Lisa will ultimately require surgery to repair the damaged celiac artery and remove the ligament from the diaphragm that is compressing the artery and nerves. This surgery will require Lisa, and her family, to live in Connecticut for a month. In addition to the strain of major surgery, Lisa will also have to take time off from her job as a paramedic. The hope is that this surgery will end Lisa’s pain, and MALS symptoms. Lisa has dedicated her life to serving and helping others. Her passion for EMS, teaching, friends, loved ones, and life is unbelievable! Let's give back to a woman who deserves our compassion and support during this very hard time. Your donations will help Lisa pay for medical bills, travel, and stay expenses. Anything helps! Thank you!
