Help Lis Battle Cancer

Many of you may know that at the beginning of 2022, Lis was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma (a.k.a. bile duct cancer), a rare and aggressive cancer attacking the liver. It has been a long, arduous year for Lis and having exhausted conventional treatment options, she has recently participated in treatment in Mexico that cost $35,000. Any further treatment will cost more, and this treatment is not covered by medical insurance. Lis and the family are very grateful for your prayers and any financial assistance you have provided. We are asking that if you can contribute to additional treatment costs, please do so. Please also keep the prayers coming, as we all know the power of prayer and positivity.

For those not aware of Lis’s journey, since her diagnosis, she was advised that the size of her tumor was inoperable. Chemo treatment began on March 24, 2022, but was continuously interrupted due to low platelet counts. On July 29, 2022, while receiving chemo, she suffered an allergic reaction to the treatment, placing a halt on any additional chemo treatment. Lis attempted to enroll in a promising trial treatment that would be covered by insurance, but could not begin this treatment due to low platelet counts. Without other options, Lis and her family have turned to treatment in San Luis, Sonora, Mexico. Throughout this time, the tumor has continued to grow into the portal veins and bile ducts, causing enlarged esophageal varices and jaundice. Procedures have continued to be performed and will continue to be performed to cap off the varices and to reduce the jaundice until the cancer is eliminated.

On a side note, before things became more complicated, Lis was fortunate enough to have sold her home in Phoenix. With those proceeds, she accomplished paying for her daughter’s quinceañera with the financial assistance of the Godparents. Being a responsible mom and daughter, she also made celebration of life arrangements which are paid in full (and, God willing, will not be needed for a very long time ). Additionally, she paid as much as she could toward the treatment provided in Mexico, while her parents assisted her with the remaining balance (and her parents and brother have also been very supportive with taking care of Lis’s three children). Lis had been working “full-time” given the circumstances. However, given the recent medical complications, she decided it was best to stay home to focus on her health and her three amazing children, ages 6, 9 and 14. Her children are the apple of her eye, and she is a dedicated mother and continues to remain active in their lives (despite the tiredness that comes with her ailment and the not-so-wonderful moments that go with it).

Muchos saben que Lis fue diagnosticada con cholangiocarcinoma al principio de este año. Ha sido un año arduo para Lis y recientemente participó en tratamiento en México con el costo de $35,000 (USD). Cualquier tratamiento adicional va a costar más y este tratamiento no es cubierto por aseguranza. Lis y la familia están muy agradecidos por sus oraciones y la asistencia financiera que han dado hasta este momento. Pedimos si pueden contribuir para tratamiento adicional, por favor háganlo. Sin embargo, por favor continúen sus oraciones porque sabemos el poder de la positividad y las oraciones.

Para los que no saben de la situación por cual Lis a pasado, los médicos le avisaron a Lis que el tumor es inoperable. El tratamiento de quimio empezó el 24 de marzo del 2022 pero siempre fue interrumpido porque Lis tenia las plaquetas bajas. El 29 de julio, mientras estaba recibiendo el tratamiento de quimio, Lis tuvo una reacción alérgica y en ese momento, pararon los tratamientos. Lis trató de empezar un tratamiento de prueba que sería cubierto por aseguranza, pero no pudo empezar este tratamiento porque el nivel de sus plaquetas siempre estaban bajas. Sin otras opciones de tratamiento, Lis y la familia escogieron tratamiento en San Luis, Sonora, Mexico. Durante este tiempo, el tumor ha seguido creciendo dentro de la vena portal y conducto biliar causando varices esofágicas agrandadas e ictericia. Cirugías han continuado y seguirán continuando para tapar las varices y reducir la ictericia hasta que se elimine el cáncer. 

En otros comentarios, antes de que se haya complicado más la situación, Lis tuvo la suerte de haber vendido su casa en Phoenix y con esos fondos, pagó por completo la quinceañera de su hija y también sucedio esto con el apoyo financiero de los padrinos. Siendo una mamá e hija responsable, Lis hizo planes y pagó por completo su celebración de vida (que esperamos con el favor de Dios, no será por muchos años ). Lis también pagó lo que pudo para el tratamiento en México, mientras que sus papas le ayudaron con el balance (y sus papás y hermano también han apoyado mucho a Lis con cuidar a sus tres niños). Lis empezó a trabajar “tiempo completo” a pesar de las circunstancias. Sin embargo, después de las últimas complicaciones médicas, decidió quedarse en casa para enfocarse en su salud y sus tres niños adorables que tienen 6, 9 y 14 años. Los niños son la prioridad de Lis y es una madre dedicada y siempre mantiene su vida activa con los niños (a pesar del cansancio que tiene con su enfermedad y los momentos que no son tan maravillosos que existen a causa de la enfermedad).
