Hi everyone!

This is Lionel, the sweetest little cat we rescued from a gas station in Fresno during a 110° heatwave. The attendant told us that Lionel and his brother had been coming to play around the station since they were tiny kittens—until one day, his brother stopped showing up. Between that story, the extreme heat, and seeing the condition of Lionel’s eye, we knew we couldn’t leave him there alone.

We brought him home and got him to the vet right away. They told us he would eventually need to have his injured eye removed, but at the time it wasn’t causing him much pain, so we hoped to save up for the surgery.

Unfortunately, things changed quickly. This week Lionel’s eye began producing heavy discharge and even bleeding, and the vet told us the surgery can’t wait any longer. With a recent job loss this summer, we haven’t been able to save as much as we hoped, and the procedure is costly—especially in cases like Lionel’s where there’s significant trauma to the area.

We want to get him into surgery as soon as possible so he doesn’t have to keep living in pain. He’s normally such a cuddly, affectionate kitty, but lately he’s been hiding, skipping meals, and clearly hurting.
