Hope For Lovely Linsay

Three and a half years ago, at the age of twenty-nine, Linsay noticed a small lump in her breast, concerned she visited her family doctor and was informed not to worry that it was simply a milk duct.
Despite this news, Linsay pressed for a mammogram and biopsy, and only a few days later was informed she did, in fact, have breast cancer. At the time her daughter, Kylie, was just twelve years old.

Ever since that day, through being misdiagnosed twice, then years of treatment, chemotherapy, radiation, and several surgeries, Linsay has stayed strong in the face of impossible odds.

A loving single mother of her teenage daughter, Kylie, Linsay has fought the devastating effects of cancer, chemotherapy and radiation for nearly four years, working full-time despite being in immense pain. Further scans revealed that the cancer had broken her neck. From this point on, Linsay was no longer able to work.
After the discovery of her broken neck, Linsay learned that the cancer had progressed to stage four in October 2017.
Recently, she has been dealing with financial difficulties no cancer patient should ever have to worry about. In between frequent stays at Sunnybrook, Linsay has received treatment at her home, as all patients deserve the comfort and dignity of, but has been forced to pay for some of her take-home medication.
Linsay requires certain medications not covered by OHIP, such as costly anti-nausea medication cancer patients require as their bodies attempt to reject chemotherapy. Additionally, there are many costs of living with cancer that may not be as obvious as others, including the cost of traveling, gas, and sky-high hospital parking fees.
This would be a tremendous financial burden on many people, without even living with cancer. With cancer, it adds greatly to her stress - the last thing any cancer patient needs. This places Linsay in the position of being torn between paying for medication and saving for post-secondary for her daughter.

On top of Linsay’s diagnosis, her mother, Debbie, was recently diagnosed with Leukemia, which has put an added burden on the family. Debbie had formerly been her caretaker and is now dealing with a terrible disease of her own.
Finally, especially in light of the cancer’s progress the terminal stage, Linsay is seeking to start a new medication that has shown promising results that helps with side-effects such as insomnia, nausea, appetite and pain, having the potential to greatly improve her quality of life - but it is exorbitantly expensive.
In spite of a terminal diagnosis, Linsay chooses to stay optimistic and hopeful about the future.
