"Cancer. A word that never existed in my every day vocabulary & now it seems to dictate many conversations. This is what I know about cancer: it doesn't discriminate or care if you're only 25. I was recently diagnosed with Bile Duct Cancer & will soon begin chemo and radiation treatments. But you know what? I have a full team behind me with infinite love and support. My incredible family, my friends, my co-workers, and my medical caregivers. I feel scared, anxious, and defeated. However, I KNOW I am strong, brave, and resilient. Six months ago, Lindsay was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (or PSC for short). PSC is an autoimmune liver disease that damages/blocks the bile ducts inside and outside the liver causing severe liver damage. In July, Lindsay learned that she would need a liver transplant to resume a normal & healthy lifestyle.
A few short months later, Lindsay was shocked to learn that the PSC had advanced at an unprecedented rate and found herself in immediate need of a donor organ. In addition to this heavy news, Lindsay also learned she had developed cancer and would require emergency radiation and chemotherapy to shrink the tumor before a transplant organ could be made available to her.
Over the next few months, Lindsay will be receiving cancer treatment at London’s Victoria Hospital as part of the Cancer Care program in hopes that they can shrink the tumor and get Lindsay back on that organ recipient list.
Many people have been asking how they can support Lindsay and her family during this difficult time. Donations are being accepted to help with lost wages, hotel accommodation, meals, and travel expenses for the family. In true Canadian fashion, lets rally together to show our support for Lindsay as she fights this battle!
