Help Lindsay Give Kai a Beautiful Farewell

Hello. I'm Vanessa Goodwin, Lindsay's Mom. This fundraiser's purpose is to seek funds from our friends, family and the public to help us give Kai a proper funeral. Lindsay had life insurance through work but got fired when she wanted to be with Kai at the hospital. Her insurance lapsed ONE DAY before Kai passed. By losing her job, Lindsay also ended up losing her car, too. She was driving my car to be with Kai at the hospital and a tire blew. She lost control and almost flipped the car. It was totalled so we didn't have transportation except for her sister and a friend. We walked and rode the bus a lot. It has been truly one thing after another for both Lindsay and Kai. Here is Kai's story.

June 6, 2021

Funnily enough, they met from a TikTok post that Kai had made. "Let's give it 30 days and see who catches feelings first". Lindsay knew they had to meet! She quit her job, packed up her car, and took off for Colorado. She took a leap of faith, and it paid off. They've been together ever since. They were married on October 22, 2021. Lindsay and Kai are the cutest couple, and their beautiful love shows in all that they do.

Kai is hilarious with a side of sarcasm that captures you and draws you in. And speaking of drawing, Kai is an incredible artist. She has a deep sense of shadowing, and is quite skilled in sketching animals and people. Anyone that comments will tell you about Kai's infectious smile and her contagious laugh.

December 20, 2024

Kai had a Widowmaker heart attack. Only 15% of people who have that type ever survive. Kai required a triple bypass surgery. As she was recovering, she experienced many complications and would undergo five more surgeries.

February and March, 2025

One day Kai just wouldn't wake up. Her CO² was elevated, and her oxygen was very low. Kai might possibly have brain damage. Kai ended up on a ventilator and also had a tracheotomy. After 28 days on full ventilation, miraculously Kai woke up! She was able to return home for 13 days.

April and May, 2025

When a mucous plug dislodged in Kai's trach, it blocked her windpipe and left her gasping for air. As she turned blue, she knocked over tables, lamps, and trinkets, struggling to get some air into her lungs. Kai returned to the hospital and back to the ventilator. She would spend 37 more days on the ventilator. Kai's body just wouldn't allow her to breathe for herself anymore. She had hyper-capnic respiratory failure.

May 22, 2025

It was now that Lindsay had to make that life-altering decision. She didn't want to lose her beloved partner, but the Doctors told her Kai's body was deteriorating. Lindsay wanted to be selfish and keep her dear love alive, but she had to respect Kai's wishes. At 2:30 pm, the medicines were stopped and Kai was taken off of the ventilator. Kai breathed on her own for 21 hours. Her body was damaged and tired.

May 23, 2025

Kai took her final breath at 11:47 am. Kai was now free of her pain and on to a better place with Jesus. She left behind all who loved her, especially her wife Lindsay and her son Chris. Now Lindsay was forced to switch her decision-making to cremation and funeral services. Since her life insurance had just lapsed after being fired, now there would be no life insurance and no money for these expenses. Lindsay needs your help. She wants Kai to get the services she deserves, such as an urn to hold those precious ashes in and a service so her loving friends can come to say goodbye.

May 24, 2025

Lindsay and Kai were together for 4 years. It wasn't nearly enough time and they deserved more. God's plans were different, however, and now Lindsay has to find a way to move forward on Earth without Kai. Please give from your heart, and give what you can.
