David was a gentle soul who walked through the Memphis zoo on his way to school, always stopping to greet the animals. The camel would walk alongside him, and even as a child, David dreamed of being a farmer while his friends chose more traditional paths. He played the long game, saving for his future, and his frugality helped him and Linda buy 59 acres in the bluebonnet hills of New Ulm, Texas. Together, they designed their home and built a life on Curly Q Ranch Refuge, surrounded by wildlife and the kindness of their community.


Linda became a licensed wildlife rehabber, caring for baby fawns, raccoons, opossums, rabbits, and squirrels. After a hurricane, she took in thirty baby squirrels at once, with volunteers from the community helping to feed and nurture them. Their ranch became a haven for animals and people alike, filled with hope and compassion. But life changed suddenly when Linda was targeted by a scammer, losing her savings to someone she trusted. Despite living month to month, Linda managed until the emergency of David's passing struck, leaving her emotionally and financially overwhelmed.


Now, Linda faces funeral expenses and, most urgently, the constant need for feed and care for her beloved animals: a pig, two ducks, a donkey, six goats, fifteen cats, two birds, and two dogs—each one a cherished rescue. Every day brings new mouths to feed and lives to protect.
