Help Linda Find Emergency Housing

Hello all,

My name is Genesea, and I started this GoFundMe to help my mom Linda find emergency housing.

This year was a hard one for my mom. The fires in Plumas County last year displaced her and sucked up her savings. She lost her home in April, due to the property she was renting being sold, and was unable to find a new living situation (most likely due to a high volume of fire evacuees also in need of homes in the area). She was discriminated against while looking for low-income housing due to her disabilities. Her mother passed away in April, and her dog unexpectedly became ill and crossed the rainbow bridge a few days after. The list honestly goes on...

After facing homelessness this April, she found a room for rent in an unwelcoming environment. From the start, her roommate was controlling and a bully. They would not give her a key to the house, kept her mail from her, did not allow her to keep food in the fridge or cabinets, entered her room without permission, threw away her belongings without her knowledge, and attempted to take her car and phone from her on multiple occasions (when they were drunk and without a license). Now the issues have escalated to a dangerous level, with them threatening her with a hammer, attacking her guests, and smashing out her car window. We are fearful physical harm to her is next.

She has since fled the violent living situation and now not only faces houselessness again for the second time this year but also the possibility of retaliation and loss of her personal belongings that still remain at the property with the violent roommate. Unfortunately, the cops in Plumas County have done little to protect her, and even though this person is on parol, there have been no consequences.

My family is now desperately trying to relocate her and her belongings. We are hoping a GoFundMe will support her during this difficult time. The funds raised will be used for renting a truck to relocate her and her belongings, rent for the first 4 months, a rental deposit, and other expenses that might come up.

Those of you who know my mom know she would, and will, give the shirt off of her back to help others in need, even if it means it hurts her. She would feed the neighborhood even if she only had enough for herself. She has taken in and fed more people than I can count. And she does all of this, never asking for anything in return, even though she struggles herself. Now is the time for us to come together and support her through this difficult time!
